Now that the hullabaloo--Valentine's Day is over, its time that you put your feet up and did some fine reading. Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes (please note that it is Frances and not Francis) qualifies for a Nizam’s roll of: memoir, travelogue and a cook book.
The author is recently divorced and along with her new lover buys an old villa in Tuscany, Italy and begins the arduous task of renovating the centuries-old building, which is in neglect for a whole three decades, to make it her summer house. She is the Chair of the creative writing department at San Francisco State University and what makes her plunk her life savings in far away Tuscany? She says: I keep remembering that anytime I’ve stepped into my footprints again, I haven’t felt renewed.
It’s a plausible excuse all right!
The book was originally her diary during the time she was searching for the perfect villa in which she took notes about rural Italy, its piazzas, fine wines, local recipes etc. Very evocative and her descriptions are so mouth watering that if you don’t have some sinful food by your side to feed your crave, you are going to be a very desperate soul. A book which would make even the die-hard arm-chair traveler pack his suitcases straightaway. This book isn’t meant to be finished at one go, it should be savored one page at a time. A feast for the senses!

D_W,
A question for you...
People who love food are called foodies...
What are people who love books called....? Not Bookies surely.... I would hate to be called that. One more lovely book to read.
And yes.... I have been haunting your blog since morning. You talked of quirks? How's this one...?
One more to go. I am already bleary eyed. And since you are a doctor... I shall haunt your clinic too... sommeday... for my cervical spondilysis treatment... aggravated by long stints in front of my laptop...
Cheers (Look upon the up-side... You got a die-hard fan free of cost... without any effort on your part...!!)
